Checkered Hearts - Mixed Media Style
Natasha Vacca
Hello crafty friends, I am excited to be back on the Hero Arts blog today. Today I am sharing a mixed media styled card using the January Cling Stamp of the Month - Checkered Hearts! Let's get started!
I started with a piece of Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock. I placed the Checkered Hearts Cling Stamp onto my stamping platform. Then I inked the background using Core Inks. I used one color at a time by placing the ink onto small sections of the background, stamped the image, then repeated using different colors of inks. I used the following Core Ink colors on the background: Papaya, Pumpkin, Spicy Mustard, Fawn, Arctic, Paradise, and Bermuda. I love the mix of colors the inks provided, don't you?
Once the background was complete, I trimmed the panel using the Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies. Then I ink-blended Antique Ivory Core Ink over the panel. I applied this ink to soften the hearts to give a more distress feel. I also added splatters to the background using Glimmer Metallic Ink in Rose Gold, as well as Espresso Ink. I set the panel aside to dry. Next I die cut three hearts from Antique Ivory Card stock using the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies. I ink-blended over each of the hearts using Spicy Mustard, Fawn, Pumpkin, and Bermuda inks. Next I added Clear Embossing Ink to the hearts in various sections, as I did not want to cover the entire heart. I applied Iridescent Copper Embossing Powder to the hearts and heat set. I also applied Wintergreen Wax using my finger to the heart die cuts. I love the combination of the powder and wax, it adds a cool, vintage feel.
I completed the card with a sentiment from the Hello Love Stamp Set. I stamped the sentiment onto Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock using Onyx Pigment Ink and heat embossed the images with Ultra Fine Clear Embossing Powder. I also die cut the sentiment using the coordinating die. I also die cut three more shadow layers and adhered them together with liquid glue for added dimension. Finally, I adhered the panel onto a top folding card base, then adhered the sentiment and hearts using a combination of liquid glue and foam tape.
Thank you so much for stopping by today!
